In 1959, Munford Rhett, currently an insurance salesman at the time, decided he was ready for a life change. Little did he know, the change he pursued would endure for at least 2 more generations and impacting hundreds of lives along the way.
After earning his real estate brokers license, Munford began a new form of real estate agency, one that departed from the traditional roots of insurance companies. McDaniel-Humphreys-Rhett was established and people were shocked; it just was not the way real estate was sold in the 1950s. Kathryn, Munford's wife, followed suit of her husband and four years later completed her real estate license. She left behind a secure CPA position at T.E.Lott to join her husband in the real estate business. They walked together, believing they could create a competitive, viable organization with a commitment to customer service.
"We were young and hungry. We were starving to death, Munford and I. We just sort of really went after it and people were shocked," Kathryn recalls.
The two worked hard through the following years, committing weekends and holidays. Occasionally they would leave their children's ball games, all the while explaining their goals. Their children grew to share the same passion for the business and as a result, Kathy, Laura Lee, Whythe and Robert earned their real estate licenses and joined the agency. Munford's vision became the life work of his entire family. The grandchildren currently even talk of real estate aspirations; building a passion for the business - the same one their grandparents and parents share. |
